'Passaic wins!' MLB RBI team puts its spin on Sterling's best calls

May 9th, 2024

Longtime Yankees radio voice John Sterling left an indelible mark on the organization and the baseball world. When Sterling retired last month following a 64-year broadcasting career, there was no shortage of tributes for the legendary broadcaster.

Look no further than the most recent rendition, courtesy of MLB RBI’s team from Passaic, N.J.

Youth players from Passaic’s RBI team re-created some of Sterling’s most iconic calls, such as his usual “It is high, it is far, it is gone!” home run call for Aaron Judge’s record-breaking 62nd home run in 2022. Then, Passaic put its own twist on Sterling’s famous “The Yankees win!” call.

“The Yank- … you know what? Passaic wins!” one of the players says at the end of the video, followed by the rest of the team jumping into the frame in excitement.

Passaic is home to just one of many teams that are part of MLB and Nike’s RBI program, which is the league’s youth baseball and softball program for kids in underserved communities across the U.S. and the world.
